Fabulous! The Queen of New Musical Comedies
Book & Lyrics by Dan Derby Music by Michael Rheault Directed by Rick Hamilton Choreographed by Mary Lauren Music Direction by Ted Arthur The Off-Broadway production of Fabulous! ran at the Times Square Arts Center. It was produced by Roy Nevans, John Lant and FABCO Productions in association with Write Act Repertory and Tamra Pica. |
"Fabulous!" is an exciting new comic
farce. Two female impersonators meet a near-disaster after backing up
Sue Flay, the biggest drag diva in Paris. Now jobless and homeless, their
salvation arrives in the form of a job offer as fabulous showgirls on a cruise ship,
the Queen Ethel May. The catch? They must keep
their male identities a secret from everyone: the crew, the passengers,
and some very determined male suitors. It's madcap adventure all around
in the tradition of Some Like It Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Fabulous! is where vintage musical comedy meets
modern farce, a laugh-a-minute and a must-see!
Reviews:
Rick Hamilton has directed with a sublime sense of goofy innocence that fits this second-floor Times Square theater just perfectly.

The work of director Rick Hamilton and choreographer Mary Lauren is inspired and imaginative. Highlights include a farcical slamming doors sequence [and] numerous sight gags reminiscent of Blake Edwards’ best.

Fabulous! benefits greatly from its director and choreographer. Rick Hamilton keeps the production moving at a brisk pace and navigates the theater’s wide stage with ease. For a fun homage to the old days of musical comedy, Fabulous! offers a refreshing evening of light-hearted fun, plenty of laughs and more sequins than a Cher concert.

Director Rick Hamilton should take a bow.

The World Premiere of Fabulous! was an AEA-approved showcase produced Off-Off Broadway at the Richmond Shepard Theater. After a sold-out limited run, we raised money for the Off Broadway production through a series of four backers presentations. The show opened in September 2014 at the Times Square Arts Center and ran for over 100 performances.
